Blog

from panic to peace

I’ve been praying this year about my blog. I have had many thoughts, but not necessarily a direction or vision for content. Until . . .

One day a couple of months ago, I was driving and listening to a new podcast that has quickly become a favorite. One of the comments made by the guest being interviewed really stuck out, and in my mind, I saw that statement as little square art that could be shared.

That night, I feel like the Lord began to answer my prayer for direction.

There are many things for us to read and listen to, and at the top of that list for me, I pray will always be God’s Word. Second to His Word, I pray will always be things that are encouraging and uplifting; things that more often than not will point to Him and help me grow in Him.

So here’s the plan . . .

I’m going to set out to share (not sure the frequency), but will share from time to time, something that has inspired me from a favorite podcast!

The goal?

  • Inspiration for you too

  • An introduction to new content or pointing out an “in case you missed it” episode

  • Encouragement to share with others

Kicking things off is a podcast I discovered, I think, in early 2020. I’m really not even sure how I found this show, but I’m so glad I did. It’s one I make a point to check out and try to listen to weekly—the 4:13 with Jennifer Rothschild.

There’s so much I could say about this show, but in a nutshell, Jennifer (author, speaker, and Bible study teacher, who also became blind at age 15) and her “seeing-eye guy,” co-host, KC, are kind, encouraging, sincere, and funny! And, they can always be counted on to share solid Biblical truth.

The name, the 4:13, is inspired from Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Their most recent show, Episode 136, Can I Feel Peace Even in Chaos?, is a good one, and one I’ll listen to more than once! It’s where this little nugget was heard, not in this exact quote, but in essence, and has been rolling around in my head the past few days:

When I heard this part of their conversation, in my mind, I pictured panic on the left, peace on the right, and prayer as the bridge between the two to help us cross from panic to peace. When panic sets in, whatever the reason, we can choose to turn to God in prayer and trust Him to bring about His peace and provision.

And to be reminded of how that is possible, are five facts from scripture that Jennifer and KC talk us through.

5 Unchangeable Facts about Peace

In this episode, you’ll hear a story of Jennifer’s tooth breaking, which led to panic because she was a day away from needing to speak at an event, and how she found peace in that situation. You’ll also hear “5 Unchangeable Facts about Peace” from God’s Word to help you when you feel panic coming on, because as shared in this show, “Panic is often a first response when we are freaked out.”

And as a sneak peek, here’s a portion of #2 and a quote from the show not included in the show notes:

“2. When we trust God, our minds are steady, and we have peace. Isaiah 26:3 says, ‘You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.’ It’s like, we can’t have peace from God without trust in God.”

. . .

“I think when we call on Him, no matter what words we use, it pulls our heart out of panic mode into peace mode, because it reminds us that Jesus is with us. His peace is in us. We will be okay. The reality is when we have Jesus, we have the Prince of Peace in our lives. So that means, if we have Jesus in our hearts, His peace is inside us.”

What a great reminder, right!?!

Read or Listen

If you prefer to read rather than listen, each week they do an awesome job of providing condensed show notes, and here is a link to those notes from Episode 136.

You can also listen to the episode there or on your favorite podcast app.

Looking forward to sharing more in the days ahead! And hey, if you listen to this, I’d love to hear what stands out to you! Feel free to drop a comment below.

And as a reminder, especially since it’s been a while, thanks for being here. :)
