silent night, holy night
“Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright.”
How soothing is this dear Christmas hymn? I love it. It was one of the first Christmas songs I ever learned as a child, and as I’ve grown over the years in my faith, it’s become all the sweeter.
I love to try and imagine the stillness of the night.
The holiness of it all.
The wonder of it all.
Immanuel, God with Us
From Isaiah’s prophecy in Isaiah 7: “Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.”
To about 700 years later in the angel’s appearance in a dream to Joseph in the book of Matthew as those words were close to being fulfilled, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: See, the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name Him Immanuel, which is translated “God is with us.”
"Christ the Savior is born”
God with us. Immanuel. “Christ the Savior is born … Christ the Savior is born!”
Do you know Jesus Christ, who was born in that humble manger over 2,000 years ago? God who came to earth in human form so we could find healing, forgiveness, and redemption of our sins through Him and His eventual sacrifice on the cross and resurrection from the grave?
Reality is, the Bible tells us we are all fallen, all sinners, and all in need of a Savior. And that Savior, Jesus, He loves us beyond what we can ever comprehend. And He wants us to know the forgiveness, fullness, grace, mercy, life, and peace with Him today and forever. And if you don’t know Him as Savior, you can today.
On that night, that silent night and holy night, everything changed. For all people, for all time.
